SlowExposures Returns to Georgia this Fall

SlowExposures, the nationally recognized juried photo exhibition held each Fall in Pike County, Georgia, faithfully captures the rural South's distinct history and character through fine art photography.

The ninth showcase of photography opens on Friday, September 16th, 2011, in the 1887 R. F. Strickland Building (listed on the National Register of Historic Places), a late nineteenth century mercantile store, in historic Concord, Georgia, one hour south of the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Elizabeth Biondi, Visuals Editor of The New Yorker, and Peter Essick, with National Geographic Magazine, are the jurors for this year’s show.

The “call for entries” begins in February, with a submission deadline of June 15th. Details on the entry process will be posted on the website in early February.

The photo celebration, which continues for two event-filled weekends, includes:

The Main Photo Exhibit, featuring dozens of images, which interpret the rural South,

A Lunch and Learn Photo Presentation,

John Bennette’s (the New York City collector) Show,

A Jurors’ Talk with Elizabeth Biondi and Peter Essick,

A Portfolio Review/Portfolio Walk that offers photographers the opportunity to have their work evaluated by some of the field's most respected professionals,

A Local Student’s Photography Contest,

Several Satellite Shows

And

The Slow Exposures Ball (dinner/dance) on Saturday, September 17th.

SlowExposures is the annual fundraiser of Pike Historic Preservation and is dedicated to supporting the historical and cultural heritage of the rural South through contemporary photography.

All proceeds from the show and the accompanying events go toward the preservation of historic buildings and landscapes.

Information and news will be available through Facebook, Twitter and an expanded, interactive website.
