Simple Pleasures Photography Exhibition Opens in Newnan on June 9th

Simple Pleasures Photography encores in Newnan Thursday, June 9th. The juried photography competition received high praise from collectors at its inaugural show in 2010 and was noted as being “one of the strongest photography shows in Georgia” at that time. The 2011 exhibit opens with a reception for its photographers at Encore Décor (next to Scott’s Book Store) on the south court square in historic downtown Newnan. The contest, which is open to professional and amateur photographers, focuses on the simple pleasures of life. The winners of this year’s competition will display their work at both the Carnegie Library and Encore Décor.

Bob Shapiro, who has been photographing people and events in Newnan for over 35 years, will serve as judge for the 2011 show which offers cash prizes to its winners who will be announced at the reception between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Entries to Simple Pleasures are submitted to the judge by blind submission in order that professional ad amateur photographers may be judged solely on the merit of their work. Dale Niles of Fayetteville had never entered a photography contest prior to winning Best of Show in Simple Pleasures in 2010. Niles earned her first award with Simple Pleasures and then went on to win first prize in the “Nature Undisturbed” photography competition later the same year. Her wins opened doors to invitations for gallery exhibitions of her work which include The Dogwood Gallery in Tyrone.

The 2011 exhibit for Simple Pleasures is open to the public through July 7th at which time a closing reception will be held to announce the People’s Choice Award.
